New York Comic Con is amazing, and one of my favorite events. It’s full of fun activities and opportunities for fans like me. But let’s face it. There is one area that NYCC is lacking in, and that is the food.
While NYCC is hosted in one of the greatest food cities in the world (New York City!!) the food at Javits Center is not awesome.
That said, you can make your New York Comic Con food journey a bit more delicious by stepping outside of Javits, because there are plenty of yummy options to be found in the city beyond the convention center. Here are a few of our favorite options.
The SkyLight Diner
Located on the corner of 34th Street and 9th Avenue, the SkyLight Diner is just what it says it is: a casual, comfortable place for burgers, soup, salads, or my favorite, pancakes! It’s an old school city diner, so there’s something for everyone, and it’s only a block from Javits, so it’s the perfect place to grab a bite before the show—or after a long day of cosplaying, when you need some space to decompress. Because honestly, a milkshake is the perfect way to end the day.
6 Tips for Planning Your New York Comic Con Adventure With Kids
Hudson Yards
Hudson Yards has only been around for about two years, but I can’t really remember ComicCon life without it. It’s like a fancy food court, so there are tons of awesome options for a quick bite—though beware, it does get super crowded! Our favorite stops at Hudson are Shake Shake for burgers, hotdogs, and fries, Los Tacos #1 for tacos, and Eataly for Italian food. But there’s also lots of sweet treats, like Dylan’s Candy Bar and Laduree for macarons, which are the perfect mid-day ComicCon pick-me-up! YUM!
Russ & Daughters
This NYC bagel joint on 34th and 10th is the perfect pre-ComicCon pitstop for a quick but yummy breakfast. They have all the fancy NYC bagel stuff—like lox and cream cheese and even a caviar bar—but they also do a great job on just a regular warm sesame bagel slathered with butter. And they’ve got coffee, too. Plus, you can grab some chocolate babka for snacking later!
Rowdy Rooster
Okay, so Rowdy Rooster—at 34th near 7th—is closer to Penn Station than Javits, but if you’re heading in (or home!), then it’s definitely worth a stop. (And it is the perfect place to pause and admire your newly-signed copy of the Book of Bill after you meet your idol Alex Hirsch at NYCC!) It’s all about Indian-flavored fried chicken and masala fries, which definitely hit the spot if you’re looking for something to spice up your day. Plus, they’ve got mango lassi and Limca! If you’re a lightweight like me, make sure you’re opting for the mild version. Because the spice levels can get intense!
